The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) will present Star Wars: A New Hope in Concert this May, combining a full screening of the classic film with a live orchestral performance of its score. Taking place at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS, the concerts are scheduled for May 3 at 3pm and May 4 at 8pm, conducted by Gerard Salonga.

The event features the original 1977 film, Star Wars: A New Hope, with its Oscar-winning music by John Williams performed live in sync with the on-screen action. The score remains one of the most recognisable in film history, playing a key role in shaping the identity of the wider Star Wars franchise.

More than four decades after its release, the film continues to hold cultural significance, with its story following Luke Skywalker’s introduction to the Rebel Alliance alongside Obi-Wan Kenobi and Princess Leia, set against the rise of the Galactic Empire. The concert format offers a different way to experience the film, placing the music at the centre while retaining the full cinematic narrative.

Tickets range from RM399 to RM549 and are available via the MPO website. The presentation is licensed by Disney Concerts.
