Grammy-winning violinist Charles Yang returns to Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS on May 16, 2026, for a one-night concert with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. Titled Charles Yang Reloaded, the performance will be conducted by Gerard Salonga and blends classical technique with pop, blues and rock influences.
Known for his genre-crossing style, Yang has built a reputation for reinterpreting familiar songs through a classical lens. The programme includes arrangements of Somewhere Over the Rainbow from The Wizard of Oz, Astor Piazzolla’s Oblivion, Eagles’ Hotel California, Paul McCartney’s Blackbird, and Michael Jackson classics Thriller and Billie Jean.
Yang will also perform alongside longtime collaborator Peter Dugan, adding vocals to selected pieces including Frank Sinatra’s Fly Me to the Moon, the traditional House of the Rising Sun, Sam Cooke’s A Change Is Gonna Come, and his own composition Streets of Berlin.
The concert continues MPO’s run of crossover programming, offering a more contemporary take on orchestral performance while showcasing Yang’s blend of virtuosity and showmanship.
