GU:UM RuMA

The RuMa Hotel and Residences is set to host an exclusive culinary event on 12 July 2025, welcoming GU:UM, the groundbreaking Korean steakhouse from Singapore, for its first-ever appearance in Malaysia. Founded by MICHELIN-starred Chef Louis Han — the visionary behind NAE:UM — GU:UM presents a modern reinterpretation of traditional Korean grilling, marrying bold innovation with deep-rooted heritage.

Held at ATAS At The RuMa Hotel, this one-night-only collaboration will spotlight the talents of Chef Sanggil Byeon, handpicked by Chef Han to lead GU:UM Singapore. Trained in both Korean and Western kitchens, Chef Sanggil has earned acclaim for his confident, fire-led approach and inventive reworks of Korean classics.

GU:UM @ The RuMA

GU:UM, which means “to grill or cook over fire” in Korean, draws inspiration from Chef Han’s “Front Yard Barbecue” tasting menu at NAE:UM. Since opening in 2024, the restaurant has been celebrated for pushing the boundaries of contemporary Korean cuisine.

The curated menu for the evening will feature GU:UM’s signature creations, including:

Yukhwae Jeon – A bold union of beef tartare and potato pancake, topped with pickled onions and egg yolk jam.

Cold Japchae – Sweet potato noodles served chilled with seasonal vegetables and seared meat, offering a light and refreshing twist on a Korean staple.

Mulhwae – A chilled sashimi salad with tangy dressing and broth, perfectly suited for Malaysia’s tropical climate.

Hotteok – A reimagined version of the classic sweet pancake, paired with candied nuts and burnt honey ice cream.

“This collaboration reflects The RuMa’s ongoing commitment to curating world-class culinary experiences rooted in culture and creativity,” said Daniyal Ng, Hotel Manager. “Bringing GU:UM to Kuala Lumpur gives local diners a rare chance to experience Korean cuisine at its most elevated.”

The dinner is priced at RM488 nett per person.
