Share

The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) is set to take audiences on an unforgettable musical journey when it presents The Music of Pink Floyd. The concert set for Saturday, 12 April 2025, at 8:00 pm at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP), KLCC promises to be a spectacular tribute to the legendary British rock band. It will also showcase the MPO’s versatility in blending rock and classical elements in a truly unique way.

Encore Please

This will be the MPO’s second performance dedicated to the music of Pink Floyd, following their successful Symphonic Pink Floyd concert in 2017. The orchestra’s latest tribute concert will continue to push boundaries, combining the unmistakable sound of rock with the rich depth of orchestral music.

Like before, the performance will offer Pink Floyd fans an opportunity to experience a classical crossover whilst still capturing the spirit and essence of the iconic band.

A History of Rock Tributes

The MPO is no stranger to celebrating the music of legendary rock bands. In the past, the orchestra has paid tribute to U2 (2016), Queen (2015), and Led Zeppelin (2014), along with local rock acts in performances such as MPO Rocks (2013) and Rock Tri-O (2019). These performances have earned the MPO a reputation for its innovative approach to merging rock and classical genres, and The Music of Pink Floyd will continue that tradition.

The Maestro Returns

MPO Pink Floyd

Conducting the orchestra for this special tribute will be Brent Havens, a Berklee-trained conductor and arranger renowned for his work with symphonic rock programs. Havens has collaborated with numerous prestigious orchestras, including the Royal Philharmonic and BBC Concert Orchestra, and has arranged and conducted symphonic rock performances for Windborne Music.

His previous collaboration with the MPO was in 2023 for The Music of Whitney Houston. Havens’ expert guidance will ensure that Pink Floyd’s iconic music is brought to life in a way that’s both faithful to the original sound and enhanced by the full power of the orchestra.

Featuring Randy Jackson of Zebra

MPO Pink Floyd

Joining the MPO for this performance will be Randy Jackson, the lead singer of the rock band Zebra, who will lend his distinctive voice to the show. Jackson’s powerful vocals will pair seamlessly with the orchestral arrangements, offering fans a truly unforgettable experience as they hear familiar Pink Floyd hits through a new lens.
