The MPO is back and this time rocking out to the tunes of Whitney Houston

The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) is back once again and this time the orchestra pays tribute to the music of renowned songstress Whitney Houston on Saturday, 14 October 2023 at 8.30 pm at Plenary Hall, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

The MPO Does What It Does Best

This special concert will see the MPO continue to merge pop and classical elements while capturing the spirit of Whitney’s music. Prior to this, the MPO has presented similar-themed tributes to The Beatles and Michael Jackson (2013), Led Zeppelin (2014), Queen (2015), U2 (2016), Billy Joel (2018), and many more.

Moreover, Whitney Houston needs no introduction as she is one of the best-selling music artists of all time with 220 million records sold worldwide. She has 11 number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 as well as 8 Grammy Awards, 16 Billboard Music Awards, 2 Emmy Awards and 28 Guinness World Records.

Music With A Pedigree

The MPO will be led by Berklee-trained conductor/arranger Brent Havens. He has helmed the MPO in concerts at Dewan Filharmonik Petronas before. He has also collaborated with the Royal Philharmonic, BBC Concert Orchestra and the orchestras of Milwaukee, Cincinnati, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, Houston, Atlanta, Baltimore, Dallas and Buffalo.

He has also written music for television movies (including the score for Quo Vadis), commercials and worked with Doobie Brothers. Havens is also the arranger/conductor for all the symphonic rock programmes for Windborne Music.

Broadway Singer, Unforgettable Time

This MPO concert will feature the golden vocals of Rashidra Scott who appeared on Broadway in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, Sister Act, Hair and Avenue Q, was a background vocalist for Patti Austin and has appeared in numerous television programmes and more.
