TAG Heuer has unveiled a striking new limited edition of its iconic Monaco chronograph, created in partnership with Gulf. The TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph x Gulf pays tribute to the golden era of motorsport and the cinematic legacy of the 1971 film Le Mans, in which actor Steve McQueen famously wore the original Monaco on screen.

Limited to just 971 pieces, the new release marks a return to the year Le Mans premiered, solidifying the watch’s place in racing and film history. McQueen, portraying fictional driver Michael Delaney, chose the Monaco himself—guided by racing legend Jo Siffert—and wore it alongside a Gulf-striped racing suit and his Porsche 917K adorned in Gulf’s distinctive light blue and orange livery.

The new edition maintains the defining characteristics that made the original Monaco revolutionary when it launched in 1969. Most notably, its square case, the left-positioned crown, and the use of the Calibre 11 movement—all remain faithful to the original design. The watch features a finely grained silver dial crossed vertically by the iconic Gulf racing stripes, with both the Gulf and vintage Heuer logos reinforcing its historical significance.

This launch comes at a pivotal moment for the brand, as TAG Heuer becomes the title partner of the Formula 1 TAG Heuer Grand Prix de Monaco—the first time the prestigious race will carry a title sponsor. The partnership further strengthens TAG Heuer’s ties to the world of motorsport and reaffirms its enduring presence on one of racing’s most legendary circuits.

The Gulf livery itself holds an esteemed place in motorsport history, having become synonymous with endurance racing during the late 1960s and ’70s. The colours, famously sported by Siffert and later by McQueen, are now inextricably linked to TAG Heuer’s identity.
