Rado Introduces Blue Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Chronograph

Rado has unveiled a new addition to its Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Chronograph collection, introducing a dark blue colourway that joins two existing models launched earlier this year.

The latest version pairs a deep blue dial and matching ceramic bezel with a plasma high-tech ceramic case and bracelet, complemented by rose gold-coloured accents. The watch builds on the heritage of the Captain Cook collection, which first debuted in 1962, while incorporating modern materials and contemporary styling.

Designed as a versatile sports watch, the chronograph features a box-shaped sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, luminous hands and hour markers coated with white Super-LumiNova, and red-tipped chronograph hands that reference classic vintage chronographs.

Powering the watch is Rado’s automatic calibre R801 movement, equipped with 37 jewels, a Nivachron hairspring and a power reserve of up to 59 hours. The movement is tested in five positions to help maintain accuracy, while the watch offers water resistance of up to 300 metres.

The case and bracelet are crafted from the brand’s plasma high-tech ceramic, a material developed to deliver the appearance of metal while retaining the lightweight, scratch-resistant properties of ceramic. Unlike surface coatings, the metallic finish is created during the manufacturing process, giving the material its distinctive appearance throughout.

Rado first introduced high-tech ceramic in 1986 and has continued to refine the material through its research into advanced watchmaking materials. The ceramic is produced by sintering zirconium oxide powder at temperatures exceeding 1,400 degrees Celsius, resulting in a material that is both highly durable and lightweight.

The new blue Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Chronograph joins the existing black and green models, further expanding one of Rado’s flagship sports watch collections with a colourway designed to transition easily between outdoor activities and everyday wear.
