Marvel Animation’s Emmy-nominated animated series X-Men ’97 will officially return to Disney+ for its highly anticipated second season on July 1, 2026. The announcement arrives alongside a newly released trailer and poster for the acclaimed revival series, which became one of the platform’s most-watched original animated titles following its debut season.

Season 2 continues the story of the legendary mutant team as the X-Men become scattered across different eras in time, struggling to find their way back home. While the team attempts to reunite, tensions continue to rise in the 1990s, where new enemies and growing anti-mutant sentiment threaten the world in the wake of the X-Men’s disappearance.

The upcoming season will feature nine episodes and sees the return of several key cast members, including Ross Marquand as Professor X, Matthew Waterson as Magneto, Ray Chase as Cyclops, Jennifer Hale as Jean Grey, Alison Sealy-Smith as Storm, Cal Dodd as Wolverine, Lenore Zann as Rogue and George Buza as Beast.

The series is executive produced by Kevin Feige alongside Brad Winderbaum, Louis D’Esposito, Dana Vasquez-Eberhardt, Julia Lewald, Eric Lewald, Larry Houston and Beau DeMayo. Jake Castorena serves as supervising producer, while directing duties are handled by Emmett Yonemura and Chase Conley.

Praised for its nostalgic style, emotional storytelling and faithful continuation of the beloved 1990s animated series, X-Men ’97 currently holds a 99% “Certified Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes and remains one of Marvel Animation’s strongest streaming successes to date.
