Malaysia’s everyday rituals take centre stage at Rentak MalaysiaKu 2026: Slice of Life, as GMBB brings together exhibitions, performances, workshops, films, poetry, city walks and cultural experiences throughout September.

The annual Malaysia Day programme looks beyond familiar national symbols to focus on the details of daily life — from trips to the pasar and deciding what to eat later, to inherited traditions, neighbourhoods and the places where communities gather.

The programme runs throughout the month, culminating in a larger weekend of activities on 12 and 13 September 2026.

Among the highlights is Footnote: Reading KL on Foot by Briana Leong, a series of four themed walks exploring Kuala Lumpur through its food, objects, signs and spaces. A Mini Show Gallery presents miniature interpretations of sights, sounds and experiences from around Malaysia, while the Slice of Life Limited Edition Sticker Rally invites visitors to discover collectibles across GMBB’s tenant stores from 12 to 16 September.

Flavours And Culture

Food and pasar culture also feature prominently. Rasa Pasar considers the market as a living archive of taste, while IMMERSIO 2026: PASAR, running from 11 to 27 September, explores the market through new media art, projection mapping and digital works by artists from Southeast Asia. Play Play Asia’s What Should We Have Tomorrow? turns the familiar question of meal planning into a solo journaling game, while a mengkuang bag painting workshop draws inspiration from pasar finds.

Borneo is given a dedicated focus through a collaboration with HAUS KCH, featuring poetry, short films, documentaries and pop-ups by Bornean makers. The exhibition Inheritance: Borneo Women by Undercurrent, running from 2 to 30 September, explores East Malaysian perspectives on Indigenous identity, memory, labour and Borneo’s matriarchal heritage.

Traditional arts continue through performances and workshops, including Luheiw Renaweij’s Sewang Ne’asik, featuring the music and dance of Perak’s Orang Asli Semai community, a Bharatanatyam performance and lecture demonstration, and a contemporary interpretation of shadow puppetry by Fusion Wayang Kulit. Visitors can also try mini songket weaving and Peranakan-inspired ceramic tile making.

Rentak MalaysiaKu 2026: Slice of Life takes place throughout September at GMBB, Kuala Lumpur, with individual programme dates and admission details varying by activity.
