The ‘Kenzo Varsity Jungle’ Collection features American collegiate motifs 

They say that your college/ university days will be the best days of your life. They say these are the days that you will make friends that will stay with you forever and some who will literally get you through your toughest days. These are also the days you will look your best too. If you miss that style, buckle up, because this is for you.

Drawing on the Ivy League spirit that infuses the brand’s collections. Artistic Director Nigo has designed Kenzo Varsity Jungle, a playful collection of T-shirts, sweatshirts and cardigans for Spring 2023 that reflect the graphic codes of the house and the passion for nature which was a hallmark of the brand’s founder Kenzo Takada.

Two Is Better Than One

The collection showcases two distinct prints, namely the elephant and the tiger prints, that pay homage to Takada and his legacy. How so? Well, the elephant, said to have the greatest memory of all animals, was Takada’s favorite animal.

Old  Inspirations

The late designer, who was coincidentally known for having an exceptional memory, loved to feature representations of elephants in his collections, both as a motif and a symbol. The tiger is another animal that inspired Takada and the very first tiger motif for the brand appeared in Kenzo collections in 1975.

The elephant graphic that Nigo has designed is also inspired by 1950s sailor tattoo imagery, while the tiger design, also created by Nigo, was introduced as part as Kenzo’s Fall/Winter 2022 collection. They now reappear in this all new collection for this year.

On top of that, the elephant varsity wardrobe includes a printed cotton T-shirt (with graphics applied to the front and back), an embroidered jersey sweatshirt and a jersey cardigan. These are available in black, white, blue and pink. This means regardless of which colour you prefer, you can look good with the elephant motif.

The Eye Of The Tiger

Meanwhile, the tiger varsity also comprises a printed T-shirt with graphics applied to the front and back as well as an embroidered sweatshirt and cardigan. This is available in black, white, red and green allowing for more variety in colour choice once again.

To illustrate the launch of the Varsity Jungle collection, Kenzo has teamed up with photographer Frank Lebon. The campaign celebrates the values of togetherness and closeness of families and crews throughout the brand’s iconic Tiger and Elephant designs.

Each visual showcases a vibrant crew of characters and are constructed and styled to project a strong sense of community. The Kenzo Varsity Jungle collection will be available at Kenzo Asia stores from April 2023.
