For many Malaysians, a car is rarely just a means of getting from one place to another. It can mark a first job, a growing family, a long-awaited road trip or simply the daily rhythm of getting to work and back home.

That familiar sense of journey is at the heart of UNIQLO Malaysia’s latest UTme! collaboration with PROTON, which turns five of the national carmaker’s models into wearable designs.

Launching 28 September 2026, the UTme! PROTON Collection brings together UNIQLO’s LifeWear philosophy with a selection of vehicles that have become part of Malaysia’s automotive story. Rather than looking only at the cars themselves, the collection taps into the memories and milestones that have accumulated around them.

A Drive Through the Years

The designs span more than four decades of PROTON history, from the original Saga, introduced in 1985, to the Satria Neo R3, S70, X50 and all-electric e.MAS 7. Together, they offer a compact portrait of how Malaysia’s automotive landscape has evolved — from its first national car to a new generation of electric mobility.

The collection’s artwork is interpreted by Malaysian artist Syaiful Bahri, whose illustrations give the familiar models a more graphic, contemporary character.

There is an element of nostalgia here, but the appeal is also in how naturally the cars sit within everyday life. PROTON has been around for more than 43 years, accompanying everything from first driving lessons and family holidays to school runs and daily commutes.

The resulting collection turns that shared experience into something a little more tangible: a T-shirt or tote that references not just a car, but the time and place it represents.

The UTme! PROTON Collection from UNIQLO comprises adult UTme! T-shirts at RM79.90, kids’ T-shirts at RM59.90 and a kids’ UTme! tote bag at RM79.90. The collection will be available at selected UNIQLO stores nationwide, including The Exchange TRX, Fahrenheit88, Sunway Pyramid, Mid Valley Megamall Kuala Lumpur and Mid Valley Southkey Johor, from 28 September.
