A young vampire discovers he is human in The Reluctant Vampire, a supernatural comedy premiering on BBC Player on 29 October, just in time for Halloween. Starring BAFTA winner Lenny Rush, the series follows a teenager caught between the family he has always known and a world he is only beginning to understand.
Val has grown up in a traditional vampire household, living in a castle with a family steeped in supernatural customs. Despite his upbringing, he has never quite felt that he belongs. His suspicions take an unexpected turn when a shocking encounter with his reflection reveals that he is not undead after all.

With only his mother aware of the truth, Val must keep his identity secret from the rest of the family while trying to understand what being human means. His journey takes him beyond the castle and into the nearby village, where he begins learning about ordinary human life.
There, he meets Gertie and starts to develop feelings for her. As his world expands, Val faces a growing conflict between the expectations placed on him by his family and the possibility of forging a life of his own.
Keeping his secret becomes increasingly difficult, however. With a father devoted to vampire traditions and a brother growing suspicious of his behaviour, Val must find a way to maintain his cover without revealing the truth.
Blending supernatural themes with coming-of-age comedy, The Reluctant Vampire explores identity, belonging and the complications of growing up in a family that may not understand who you really are.
The series premieres on BBC Player on 29 October, with two new episodes released every Thursday.
