A Dazzling Surprise

Conductor Rossen Gergov made his debut with the MPO in this concert. He gained widespread recognition for his work on both the concert platform and in the opera pit, with repertoire from Mozart to the most challenging of contemporary works. This means that anyone present is in for a real treat indeed.

Moreover, Glinka’s Overture to the Russlan and Ludmilla opera opens the concert. It is one of the most exhilarating in the repertory, a veritable blizzard of notes that can sweep you right out of the hall. The curtain raiser makes its effect with speed, brilliance and the intoxication of strings whirling in a virtuosic cloud of notes.MPO

The Hits Keep On Coming

The MPO will also perform Omaggio ad Astor Piazzolla composed by Vladimir Zubitsky; this music is a tribute to the famed Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla by making references to one of his famous works, Omaggio. This is set to be a performance unlike any the MPO has put on before so don’t miss it.

Incorporating elements of Ukrainian folk music and jazz, this work will witness the MPO’s pioneering collaboration with accordionist Alexander Hrustevich. One of the best bayanists in the world, he has showcased his amazing artistry in Poland, Austria, Germany, Italy, Brazil and Russia.MPO

Another Performance

On top of that, he has just recently performed with Grammy award winner and composer Bobby McFerrin in a sold-out concert in Kiev. The ultimate work of the evening would be Dvorak’s Symphony No.7, said to be his greatest, darkest, most intense and most serious of all his symphonies. Written in Prague, the world premiere took place by the London Philharmonic in 1885.
