Mattel has expanded its Mattel Brick Shop Hot Wheels lineup with the introduction of two new collector-focused building sets, created in collaboration with Honda. The latest releases mark Honda’s debut in the Mattel Brick Shop Speed Series and pay tribute to two enduring Japanese performance icons: the Custom ’90 Honda Civic EF and the ’07 Honda S2000.

Japanese Icons

Recreated in buildable 1:32 scale, both models are designed with adult collectors, car enthusiasts and building fans in mind. The sets draw inspiration from Japan’s automotive performance culture, particularly the influence of 1990s tuning and motorsport design, translating these elements into highly detailed, display-ready builds.

To showcase their accuracy, the models were unveiled alongside full-size Honda vehicles, highlighting faithful proportions and authentic detailing. From recognisable body lines and headlights to window elements and exterior contours, each build reflects the design language of its real-world counterpart. The ’07 Honda S2000, in particular, features an authentic windshield and rear spoiler that mirror the original car’s silhouette.

More Than Just Models

Functionality plays a key role in both sets. Opening doors replicate real access points, while interchangeable wheel covers and custom decal sheets reference Honda’s long-standing customisation culture. Each model is finished with a Hot Wheels signature metal plate and includes an exclusive matching 1:64 scale die-cast car, reinforcing the connection between Hot Wheels’ heritage and Honda’s performance legacy.

According to Ted Wu, Global Head of Vehicles and Building Sets at Mattel, the collaboration continues to evolve how adult fans engage with iconic vehicles. By combining Hot Wheels’ design DNA with Mattel Brick Shop’s buildable format, collectors are given a hands-on way to reinterpret two of Honda’s most celebrated models.

Crafted For Fans

Honda also sees the collaboration as an extension of its relationship with global car culture. The Civic EF and S2000 have long been admired for their engineering, design and driving character, and their reimagining as buildable models offers fans a new perspective on these attributes.

Both sets are designed for frustration-free building, using smooth resin bricks with clear step-by-step instructions. The Custom ’90 Honda Civic EF includes 248 pieces, while the ’07 Honda S2000 features 257 pieces.
