Kuala Lumpur recently played host to its first-ever stop of the Red Bull Dance Your Style Asia Tour, marking a significant moment for the country’s street dance community. With international dancers touching down in Kuala Lumpur, the event brought a global spotlight to local talent while fostering meaningful cultural exchange.
Featuring world-class performers including Majid, Waackxxxy, Poppin’ C, and The D Soraki, the tour combined workshops, showcases, and immersive cultural experiences—creating a platform where tradition and contemporary street dance intersect.
Bridging Culture Through Movement

Beyond the stage, the visiting dancers explored Malaysia’s cultural roots, including a visit to Batu Caves. They also experienced the traditional art form of Mak Yong, guided by representatives from National Department for Culture and Arts.
This cultural exchange highlighted how movement transcends genres—from classical storytelling traditions to modern freestyle expression. For many of the visiting artists, it offered a fresh perspective on Malaysia’s rich artistic identity.
From Workshops to the Streets

The tour’s momentum continued with intensive dance workshops led by Majid and Poppin’ C, aimed at equipping local dancers with the skills and mindset needed for international competition.
The experience culminated in a vibrant showcase in Bukit Bintang, where global talent and the local dance community came together in a celebration of creativity, individuality, and shared passion.
Malaysia’s Wild Cards Take the Stage

The highlight of the tour saw two Malaysian dancers—Lim Yeow Hwee (Marcus) and Kayllash Thiagarajan—named as Wild Card representatives. They will go on to compete at the regional finals in Singapore on April 25.
Set to face top dancers from across Southeast Asia, the duo will be competing for a place at the global finals in Zurich later this year.
A Growing Presence on the Global Stage
Their selection reflects more than individual achievement—it signals the growing strength and recognition of Malaysia’s street dance scene. With its diverse influences and distinct voice, the local community is steadily carving out a place on the international stage.
As Marcus and Kayllash prepare for the next round, their journey represents a broader narrative: one of a scene evolving, gaining confidence, and stepping forward with its own unique rhythm.
