Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP) will present A Dance Spectacular on Saturday, 5 September 2026, bringing together two acclaimed Malaysian dance companies for an evening that celebrates cultural heritage through movement.

Part of DFP’s ongoing arts and culture programme, the performance continues the venue’s efforts to support local performing arts while providing audiences with diverse cultural experiences. The event follows recent productions including Mak Yong Shakespeare: The Comedy of Errors, Mistik Pura Masyrik and Randai Mudo Pak Belalang.

The evening opens with ASK Dance Company presenting Pearl of the Orient, a programme inspired by the evolution of Chinese cultural traditions from China to Malaya. Through a series of dance works rooted in folk customs, rituals and historical narratives, the performance explores how cultural identities evolve across generations and borders.

Showcase Of Moves

The repertoire includes Spirit of the Fire Horse, Dai Dance, Sword Dance, Tin Mining Dance and Mahjong Dance, culminating in festive Lion Dance and Chopstick Dance performances. Around 17 dancers will take to the stage, accompanied by vibrant music and colourful visual staging.

Following the interval, Dua Space Dance Theatre presents Passage Into The Unknown: Earth, Water, Fire, Wind, a contemporary work inspired by the four natural elements. Combining the elegance of traditional Chinese dance with contemporary choreography, the performance reflects on humanity’s relationship with nature and explores themes of resilience, uncertainty and compassion.

Performed by around 10 dancers, the production draws on Chinese philosophical traditions while offering a modern interpretation through expressive movement.

Founded in 2011 by Prof. Dr. Joseph Gonzales, ASK Dance Company is recognised for its choreography, educational programmes and international achievements, including accolades at the World Championship of Performing Arts and the BOH Cameronian Arts Awards.

Established in 1998 by artistic director Aman Yap and choreographer Anthony Meh, Dua Space Dance Theatre is known for blending Malaysian ethnic dance traditions with contemporary performance, while actively engaging communities through education and collaborative projects.

A Dance Spectacular takes place at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS on 5 September 2026 at 8pm, offering audiences an opportunity to experience two distinctive perspectives on dance, tradition and cultural storytelling.
