Bomsori Kim MPO

The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) will welcome one of the most exciting talents in classical music today, Korean violinist Bomsori Kim, for a special performance at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP) on Saturday, 28 June 2025 at 8.00pm.

Kim, a laureate of numerous prestigious international violin competitions, is widely recognised for her expressive musicality and technical brilliance. A recipient of the Young Artist Award from South Korea’s Ministry of Culture, she has performed with major orchestras including the New York Philharmonic, BBC Philharmonic, Vienna Symphony, and San Francisco Symphony, under the baton of renowned conductors such as Paavo Järvi and Fabio Luisi.

For her debut with the MPO, Kim will perform Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1, a staple of the Romantic repertoire known for its lyrical intensity and dramatic flair. The concerto, completed in 1866, offers a compelling showcase for Kim’s passionate artistry and virtuosic style.

The evening will open with Schumann’s Overture to Manfred, inspired by Lord Byron’s dramatic poem. The overture is widely considered one of Schumann’s greatest orchestral works, rich in emotional depth and complexity.

The concert concludes with Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances, the composer’s final orchestral work and a vibrant display of rhythmic vitality and orchestral colour. Premiered by the Philadelphia Orchestra in 1941, the piece is renowned for its sweeping gestures and haunting beauty.

Returning to lead the MPO is Spanish conductor Jaume Santonja, whose previous appearances with the orchestra have been met with critical acclaim. Audiences can expect an evening of powerful emotions, virtuosic performances, and unforgettable music-making at DFP, Malaysia’s premier concert hall.

Tickets are available now from the DFP box office and official website.
