Jumeirah Bali Launches Mawedangan Tea Ritual Celebrating Balinese And Javanese Traditions
Share
Jumeirah Bali has introduced Mawedangan, a new signature experience that invites guests to connect with Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage through the ancient art of tea rituals. The serene ceremony marks the resort’s first official Curated Ritual, blending elements of Balinese spirituality with the refined elegance of Javanese royal traditions.
Inspired by Patehan—the traditional Javanese tea ceremony historically reserved for royalty—Mawedangan reimagines this time-honoured custom as a meditative guest experience. Set within the resort’s open-air, temple-inspired spaces, the ritual immerses participants in a multisensory journey of taste, aroma, and symbolism.

Guests are welcomed with a ceremonial procession, during which attendants carry sacred elements essential to the ritual. The experience unfolds with a guided tasting of Indonesia’s finest teas, including green, black, Java jasmine, white, and roselle. Participants select a tea to enjoy alongside an assortment of Jajan Pasar—traditional market cakes—paired with calming aromatherapy.
Each stage of Mawedangan is thoughtfully choreographed with gentle narration, symbolic gestures, and a sense of sacred rhythm. The ritual not only celebrates the tea itself but also offers moments of reflection, aligning with Jumeirah Bali’s philosophy of holistic luxury and cultural reverence.

Available exclusively to in-house guests, Mawedangan is held twice weekly and on select special occasions. Priced at IDR 600,000 (MYR 155) net per person (minimum two guests), the experience is a testament to the resort’s deep respect for local traditions. It also reflects the architectural inspiration of Jumeirah Bali, which draws from the ancient Majapahit palaces and honours both Balinese and Javanese legacies.
With Mawedangan, Jumeirah Bali continues to position itself not just as a luxury destination, but as a cultural sanctuary where heritage is celebrated and stories are shared—one cup at a time.
