L’Appartement has announced Great Affinities, an exceptional exhibition that celebrates the powerful connection between two distinct art traditions. This unique showcase brings together international artists across different generations and cultural backgrounds, creating a visual dialogue that transcends time and borders.

The Who’s Who

Featured in the exhibition are celebrated artists such as Sol LeWitt, Howardena Pindell, Marina Adams, Antonakis, Jean Paul Riopelle, Piero Dorazio, and André Masson. Alongside their works, you’ll find masterpieces from renowned Australian Aboriginal artists, including Emily Kame Kngwarreye, Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri, Sally Gabori, Helen McCarthy Tyalmuty and many more.

At its core, Great Affinities explores abstraction as a universal language, one that connects seemingly disparate worlds. Through this exhibition, L’Appartement highlights how abstraction offers a shared ground that bridges cultural, geographic and linguistic divides.

Art Intertwined

The pieces in the show reveal fascinating intersections, drawing a thread of interconnected artistic approaches that speak to an evolving engagement with abstract expression. The exhibition is not only a visual experience but also an invitation to understand the depth of cultural resonance in the art on display.

Thea Montauti d’Harcourt Lyginos, Founder of L’Appartement, says, “Australian Aboriginal Art has a rich, continuous tradition dating back tens of thousands of years. With Great Affinities, my goal was to not only honor the significance of this movement but also highlight its contemporary relevance and global appeal.”

What They Say

“By pairing self-taught Aboriginal artists with renowned figures like Sol LeWitt and Howardena Pindell, I aim to show how these two art traditions, though distinct, are united in their exploration of themes like materiality, perception, and the freedom of expression”, she added.
