LEGO Renault 5 Turbo

A fan-designed LEGO Renault 5 Turbo 3E has reached a major milestone on the LEGO Ideas platform, attracting 10,000 supporters in just 44 days and advancing to the next stage of consideration as a potential official LEGO set.

Created by UK engineer Dave Collins, the model pays tribute to the upcoming Renault 5 Turbo 3E, the French carmaker’s all-electric reinterpretation of its iconic rally-inspired hot hatch. The project gained momentum after Renault publicly backed the submission and encouraged enthusiasts worldwide to support the initiative.

The achievement is particularly notable given that LEGO Ideas creators are typically allowed up to 32 months to gather the 10,000 votes required for review. Collins’ design reached the target in less than two months, reflecting strong international interest in both the model and the vehicle that inspired it.

Build To Real?

The brick-built recreation captures the distinctive styling and character of the Renault 5 Turbo 3E, a high-performance electric model that blends retro design cues with modern technology. Scheduled to enter production in 2027, the real-world vehicle will be limited to 1,980 units globally — a reference to the year the original Renault 5 Turbo was introduced.

Producing 555hp, the Renault 5 Turbo 3E is expected to accelerate from 0-60mph in under 3.5 seconds and reach a top speed approaching 170mph, positioning it as one of the most ambitious electric performance cars in Renault’s history.

Collins described the response to his project as overwhelming, noting that support came from fans across the globe. What began as a personal build quickly evolved into a community-driven project celebrating the heritage and enduring appeal of the Renault 5 nameplate.

Renault UK Managing Director Adam Wood said the enthusiastic reception highlights the emotional connection many people continue to have with the Renault 5, as well as growing excitement surrounding the upcoming Turbo 3E.

With the 10,000-supporter milestone achieved, the LEGO Renault 5 Turbo 3E now enters the LEGO Ideas review phase, where it will be evaluated for possible production as an official LEGO set. Fans will also have the opportunity to see Collins’ creation in person when it is displayed alongside the real Renault 5 Turbo 3E at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed from 9 to 12 July.
