Disney+ has announced that Avatar: Fire and Ash will begin streaming exclusively on the platform from 24 June, giving audiences another opportunity to experience the latest chapter in James Cameron’s record-breaking sci-fi saga.

Released in cinemas in December, the film became one of the biggest box office successes of the year, earning US$1.48 billion worldwide. It also received critical acclaim for its groundbreaking visual effects, securing the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects and further cementing the franchise’s reputation as a technological benchmark in modern filmmaking.

The third instalment in the Avatar series continues the story of Jake Sully, portrayed by Sam Worthington, and Neytiri, played by Zoe Saldaña, as they navigate new challenges on the moon of Pandora alongside their family.

Set after the events of Avatar: The Way of Water, the film finds the Sully family living among the Metkayina Clan while struggling to cope with a devastating personal loss. Their efforts to protect those closest to them lead them into conflict with new factions, including the Mangkwan Clan, known as the Ash People, who harbour resentment towards Eywa following the destruction of their homeland by a volcanic eruption.

The film also introduces audiences to the Tlalim Clan, or Wind Traders, a peaceful community that traverses Pandora’s skies and plays a key role in the Sullys’ latest journey.

Directed by Cameron, the screenplay was written by Cameron, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, based on a story developed alongside Josh Friedman and Shane Salerno. The film reunites much of the franchise’s ensemble cast, including Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis, Kate Winslet, Giovanni Ribisi, Edie Falco and David Thewlis.

With its arrival on Disney+, Avatar: Fire and Ash joins the platform’s growing Avatar collection, which also includes Avatar, Avatar: The Way of Water and the behind-the-scenes documentary Fire and Water: Making the Avatar Films.

The streaming release offers fans the chance to revisit Pandora’s stunning landscapes, new cultures and spectacular visual storytelling ahead of the franchise’s future chapters, as Cameron continues to expand one of cinema’s most successful and ambitious worlds.
