ID. Tiguan

This Volkswagen ID. Tiguan is new all-round SUV in the high-volume mid-size class that succeeds the ID.4 and ID.5 models and arrives early October 2026 as promised in news reports a week ago.

The ID. Tiguan’s hallmark feature is its completely redesigned exterior, which gives it the appearance of a vehicle from the next class up. And this impression continues seamlessly into the strikingly high-quality interior: the materials used have resulted in a huge leap forwards in terms of quality, complemented by the newly developed, intuitive cockpit landscape.

ID. Tiguan

For the first time, the new SUV will be available with a co-driver display. The electrically powered ID. Tiguan will be launched as early as the beginning of 2027 in parallel to the current Tiguan with petrol, diesel and hybrid drives.

Range of up to 600 km and a maximum towing capacity of 2,000 kg. Volkswagen will offer the ID. Tiguan in three performance levels:

  • a rear-wheel drive version with 140 kW (190 PS) and 58 kWh battery
  • a rear-wheel drive version with 210 kW (286 PS) and 77 kWh battery
  • and a 220 kW (299 PS) 4MOTION all-wheel drive variant, also with a 77 kWh battery.

Depending on the power and battery size, the WLTP ranges will reach up to 600 km. At the same time, the model impresses with its high suitability for everyday use: the towing capacity is up to 1,800 kg with the 58 kWh battery, and up to 2,000 kg with the 77 kWh battery.

In addition, there is a frunk with 32 litres of stowage space and a luggage compartment volume of up to 534 litres. Functional, comfortable or sporty: the ID. Tiguan will be available in the four equipment versions Trend, Life, Style and R-Line.

Volkswagen has specifically incorporated customer requests into the development of the new ID. Tiguan, implementing countless enhancements and advanced technologies.

Taking the cockpit landscape as an example, highlights include a co-driver display (12-inch, 30.5-cm diagonal), the first time a feature like this has appeared in a European Volkswagen.

The 10-inch driver display (Digital Cockpit, 25.4-cm diagonal) and the central 15-inch infotainment display (38.1-cm diagonal) are also new.

Together with the co-driver display, this results in a continuous display landscape that opens up a new world, especially for the front passenger one where they can immerse themselves in their own world of infotainment, information, and gaming without distracting the driver. This is because the display is not visible to the driver, as with a laptop privacy screen (privacy mode). In privacy mode, the front passenger can listen to the sound on their paired Bluetooth headphones.

In spite of all the focus on functionality, there is also an element of fun as demonstrated by the ‘Retro’ displays. These are a brand-new development for the ID. Tiguan. If the driver activates the ‘Retro’ display using the ‘View’ button on the multifunction steering wheel, the iconic blue-red instruments from a Golf IV appear in the Digital Cockpit. In this case, there is a classic speedometer on the left and a stylised rev counter on the right. It does not display engine speeds but the energy flow in the drive as a power display. The corresponding ‘Retro’ view in the central infotainment screen can also be personalised for the first time.

Pre-sales for the ID. Tiguan start in Germany and many other European countries on 13 October at prices from 42,695 euros (which is about RM200,000 before added logistics and warranty costs).

Malaysian arrival, please do to hold your breath and this electric VW will not be able to compete with low priced premium Chinese rivals like Zeekr and BYD. Yes, we know the ID series was teased in Malaysia some time ago.

Seriously, Volkswagen in Malaysia should be looking at the SAIC VW produced PHEV Tiguan that delivers a possible 1400km driving range.
