Experience a musical journey inspired by nature’s beauty, from Japan to Russia, as the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) presents an evocative programme titled Memoirs of a Floral Fantasy on Saturday, 7 February 2026 at 8.00 pm at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP), KLCC.
Under the baton of its Music Director Junichi Hirokami, the MPO will present the South East Asia premiere of two works by contemporary Japanese composer Takashi Yoshimatsu: White Landscapes and Piano Concerto Op. 67 – Memo Flora. Yoshimatsu is renowned for blending jazz, rock, and Japanese classical influences, and is widely recognised for his music for the 2003 remake of the anime series Astro Boy.
The concert opens with White Landscapes, an atmospheric orchestral work composed in 1991 and revised in 1997. Inspired by snow-covered scenery, the piece unfolds with gentle meditation, tinged with nostalgia and quiet melancholy.

This is followed by Piano Concerto Op. 67 – Memo Flora, a lyrical neo-romantic journey in which the piano represents the spirit of spring. The concerto’s three movements — Flower, Petals, and Bloom — capture the essence of floral life and renewal. The work was first performed in 1998 by the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra.
The concerto will feature Japanese piano prodigy Yukine Kuroki, who, at just seven years old, has already performed as a soloist with the Tokyo New City Orchestra and won prizes at prestigious competitions including the International Franz Liszt Piano Competition and the Dublin Piano International Competition.
