Enjoy the best of ‘Vivaldi’s Four Seasons’ at the DFP this March
The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) has announced that its concert themed Vivaldi’s Four Seasons on 8 March 2025 at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP) sold out almost immediately. Due to overwhelming demand, an additional performance has been scheduled for Sunday, 9 March 2025, at 3.00 pm.
A Good Lead
Led by MPO Concertmaster and renowned violinist Peter Daniš, this concert promises to be an unforgettable experience. Vivaldi’s Four Seasons (or Le Quattro Stagioni) is one of the most iconic classical compositions ever written.
Composed by Antonio Vivaldi in 1725, it remains a favourite among classical music enthusiasts and has likely been recorded more than any other classical work, aside from Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony. This masterpiece is a prime example of programme music, where each season, spring, summer, autumn, and winter, is vividly depicted through the sounds of nature, bird calls, peasant dances, and even the sensation of walking on ice.
Revisiting The Past
Although the piece was forgotten for over two centuries, it found new life in 1950 after a radio broadcast, quickly becoming a global hit. The MPO’s performance of this beloved work will transport audiences through the vivid soundscapes Vivaldi so masterfully created.
The concert opens with Wolfgang Amadé Mozart’s Symphony No. 25, composed in 1773. This symphony is known for its emotional depth, showcasing Mozart’s most personal and intense compositional voice. Following this, the MPO will present Fratres by Arvo Pärt, a 1977 composition that draws on themes of spirituality and the serene beauty of the East.
Tickets are priced from RM379 to RM499.
