The MPO Presents A Concert Themed ‘Simfoni Budaya: Keroncong & Ghazal’
Witness the MPO’s traditional performance exclusively at the DFP
The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) will showcase another dimension of its artistry when it presents a concert themed Simfoni Budaya: Keroncong & Ghazal. The concert takes place on Saturday, 2 March 2024 at 8.30 pm at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP), Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC).
When Traditional Takes Over
The MPO concert will be helmed by Ahmad Muriz Che Rose and will witness the harmonious blend of tradition and music in an extraordinary celebration at the crossroads of cultures.
This special MPO presentation will witness the return of renowned songstress Dato Yusni Hamid to the DFP stage and she will perform alongside singers of the new generation, Haziq Rosebi and Asmidar. The dynamic combination will showcase the synergy of the two generations in ensuring the keroncong and ghazal legacy live on.
Born in 1951 in Kuala Lumpur, Dato Yusni Hamid has a vast experience in the music industry. She has released 11 albums and was awarded with many accolades for her contributions to the arts. She is a frequent performer at official government’s events and state palaces, and also Istana Budaya and The Esplanade, Singapore.
The talent of Haziq Rosebi caught the attention of the public when he entered Akademi Fantasia fourth season in 2006. This Johorean singer is synonymous with traditional music and is one of the male singers who advocates classic local songs following the footsteps of his idols Dato Ahmad Jais and Tan Sri SM Salim.
Asmidar is the first runner-up for Bintang RTM (2001), and the winner for Bintang Asli (2006) and Vokal Bukan Sekadar Rupa (2011).
Like Haziq, she is also a strong advocate of local traditional and classic music in line with her mission to bring the music heritage to the world. Embark on an exciting journey as keroncong and ghazal intertwine with the grandeur sounds of the MPO through evergreen gems such as Sayang Di Sayang, Bisikan Hati, and many more.
All songs are specially arranged for the orchestra by Luqman Aziz, Ilham Subri, Azhad Sulaiman and Ahmad Muriz Che Rose himself.
