Don’t know what to do in the new year? The MPO has just the list for you

The MPO proudly presents a list of dazzling concerts to welcome another year of fabulous music-making at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP), KLCC. So if you didn’t know what should be on your to do list, here are some fun activities to consider.MPO

A Good Start

First, the MPO will present dance music, infectious melodies, sumptuous orchestration, lilting waltzes and frisky polkas that will sweep the audience into an exhilarating orbit and send them radiantly happy into a romanticised Vienna of their dreams.

Scheduled on Saturday, 20 January 2024 at 8.30 pm, the MPO, under the helm of its Resident Conductor Gerard Salonga, will present favourite evergreen works by Strauss such as Artist’s Life, Pizzicato Polka and The Blue Danube and many more.

Magical Music

The concert will see renowned British-Australian organist Joseph Nolan making magic on the Klais Pipe Organ to present Jongen’s Symphonie Concertante. Hailed as ‘a remarkable musician’ by Limelight magazine of Australia, he was awarded the medal of Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government in 2016.

Next, the MPO will present a concert themed The Father, the Queen and the King on Saturday, 27 January 2024 at 8.30 pm. Japanese conductor Junichi Hirokami returns to the podium to lead the MPO after their collaboration with the MPO last April.DFP

A Symphony

On top of that, also included in the programme is Haydn’s Symphony No.85, often regarded as the ‘Father of the Symphony.’ This delightful work is characterised by its elegant melodies and graceful style and was a favourite of Queen Marie Antoinette earning its nickname ‘La reine.’

Lastly, on Saturday, 17 February 2024 at 8.30 pm, Gerard Salonga will lead the MPO in an amorous selection of songs celebrating love and Valentine’s Day with a touch of orchestral magic, sprinkled with some Broadway staples from Wicked and Phantom of the Opera. Vocalists Sean Ghazi and Ida Mariana will enthral audiences but be prepared for surprise guest singers too!
