Chef Johnson Wong guest shifts at the Mandarin Oriental
The Mandarin Grill at the Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur has announced its latest Four-Hands collaboration. This time, the dining experience features the acclaimed Chef Johnson Wong from Gēn根, one of Malaysia’s most exciting and critically acclaimed restaurants.
The Inspiration
Gen which signifies “ground roots” in Chinese, refers to Chef Johnson’s philosophy and ethos of utilising the diverse, natural ingredients across Malaysia. Focusing on using the freshest and often seasonal ingredients, he strives to create memorable food experiences drawing inspiration from traditional Malaysian flavours to exemplify the bold flavours purely from the ingredient.
John Kitchens, Hotel Manager of Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur, stated, “We are extremely excited to have Chef Johnson and his team with us here. We have seen what he can do and the wonders he works with the ingredients that we can provide as one of the top luxury hotels in the KLCC Kuala Lumpur.”
“We are also elated that he will have a chance to work with our new Chef de Cuisine, Rafael Martinez Millan, whom we believe will lead the Mandarin Grill to greater culinary heights,” he added.

From 16 to 18 November 2023, experience Chef Johnson and Chef Rafael’s exclusive menu for lunch and dinner only at the Mandarin Grill, exclusively at the Mandarin Oriental priced at RM588 per person for dinner and RM288 for lunch, with optional wine pairing at RM328 per person.
