SEVENFRIDAY Goes Retro With Its New R-Series
Share
SEVENFRIDAY is taking a step away from its traditionally oversized watch designs with the introduction of the R-Series, its smallest collection to date. Comprising three automatic models, the R1/01, R1/02 and R2/01, the range draws on the visual language of the 1960s and 1970s, bringing rounded proportions and vintage-inspired details to the Swiss lifestyle brand.
The most immediate change is the 40mm cushion-shaped stainless steel case, which gives the watches a more compact profile. A double-domed sapphire crystal sits above a two-layer dial, with contrasting finishes and gold-coloured accents adding depth. The hands are coated with Swiss Super-LumiNova, which emits a blue glow in low-light conditions.
Three interpretations of retro style
Each model approaches the period’s aesthetic differently. The R1/01 pairs a mineral-grey lower dial with a rhodium-coloured upper dial, complemented by a brown leather strap. The R1/02 takes a darker direction, combining a charcoal dial with gold-coloured details and a black leather strap.
The R2/01 is the most expressive of the three, with a gold PVD-coated stainless steel case, matching galvanic dial and green suede strap. Together, the variations offer different takes on the same design language without departing from the collection’s shared proportions.
Inside, all three watches use the MIYOTA 8205 automatic movement, with hours, minutes, seconds and day-date functions. An NFC chip is integrated into the caseback, while 5 ATM water resistance provides everyday protection. The leather straps also feature quick-release spring bars for easier changes.
An artistic collaboration
The launch is accompanied by a collaboration with fashion illustrator Sunflowerman, who has created three illustrated personas inspired by the individual watches. Drawing on retro clothing, colour and character, the illustrations give each model a distinct identity beyond conventional product imagery.
The R-Series is now available in Malaysia through Red Army Watches boutiques at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur and 1 Utama Shopping Centre, as well as its official online store. Prices start at RM5,545.
