CIGA Design Launches Moon Walker: A Timepiece Inspired by Humanity’s First Lunar Step

CIGA Moon Walker

CIGA Design pays tribute to humanity’s first lunar step with the Moon Walker Automatic Watch, a titanium-clad mechanical creation featuring a miniature astronaut, a NASA-mapped lunar surface, and hidden details from the Apollo 11 landing.

For as long as humans have looked up at the night sky, the Moon has been a symbol of mystery and possibility. That sense of wonder took a historic turn on July 21, 1969, when Neil Armstrong left the first human footprint on the lunar surface—an image that continues to inspire scientists, designers, and dreamers today.

CIGA Design, the award-winning independent watchmaker behind the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) Challenge Watch Prize, is now bringing that moment to the wrist with the release of the Moon Walker Automatic Watch. The brand describes it as a “wearable mechanical poem,” but it’s also a pretty striking piece of design and engineering.

A Timepiece That Breaks the Mold

The Moon Walker doesn’t follow traditional watch rules. Instead of hands, a miniature astronaut glides over the dial, creating the impression of a spacewalk in slow motion. Sealed beneath curved sapphire crystal, the astronaut moves using CIGA Design’s Asynchronous-Follow Technology, a mechanism that gives the time display a smooth, almost weightless flow.

It’s part watch, part art piece—and definitely a conversation starter.

A Lunar Surface Built from Real NASA Data

The Moon Walker’s dial is a detailed recreation of the Moon’s surface, crafted using NASA’s ultra-high-resolution imagery. CIGA Design uses 0.05mm CNC micro-engraving to carve out real lunar features, from the Sea of Tranquility to the Ocean of Storms. For those who look closer—much closer—a few hidden surprises appear only under magnification, including:

Armstrong’s footprint.

The Apollo 11 landing coordinates.

The exact timestamp of touchdown.

It’s a subtle tribute to one of the most famous moments in human history.

Every Detail Designed with Purpose

The watch’s case is made from lightweight titanium, chosen for its strength and modern feel. CIGA Design opts for a lugless shape that gives the watch a futuristic silhouette, paired with polished 3D indices and a domed sapphire crystal for extra depth.

Flip it over and the case back features Armstrong’s timeless words:

“One small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.”

A black fluororubber strap completes the look, focusing on comfort and durability without distracting from the dramatic dial.

More Than a Watch—A Tribute to Exploration

While the Moon Walker is a high-craft piece of horology, it’s also designed to spark curiosity. Every element—from the floating astronaut to the micro-engraved Moon—reminds wearers of the courage and discovery that defined Apollo 11.

The CIGA Design Moon Walker is now available at Red Army Watches Malaysia in 1 Utama Shopping Centre and Pavilion KL, as well as on the brand’s official website. It is priced at RM7,890.
