Seiko 145 years

Seiko marks its 145th anniversary by celebrating the legacy of founder Kintaro Hattori, who opened a watch shop in Tokyo’s Ginza district in 1881. From its earliest days, Seiko has combined precise timekeeping with artistry, occasionally engraving its watches with intricate patterns to delight and inspire.

In 1892, Kintaro established Seikosha, Seiko’s first factory, and within three years produced the company’s inaugural pocket watch, the Timekeeper—a pioneering effort that laid the foundation for Japan’s watchmaking industry.

Now, Seiko introduces limited-edition models across its King Seiko, Prospex, Presage, and Astron collections, featuring gold-colored accents that honor its 145-year history of craftsmanship and innovation.

The King Seiko model draws inspiration from the engraved patterns of early Seiko timepieces. A gray-gradient dial, darkening toward the edges, highlights intricate motifs and gleaming gold-colored hands, indexes, and lettering. Its slim case, low center of gravity, and multi-row bracelet with mirror polishing ensure comfort, while the Caliber 6L35 movement delivers precision and reliability.

Prospex, Presage And Astron

The Prospex Speedtimer mechanical chronograph pays tribute to Seiko’s sports-timing milestones, including Japan’s first chronograph wristwatch in 1964. The dial features a reimagined engraving pattern and gold-colored elements for refined elegance. Hand-assembled with Caliber 8R48, this chronograph benefits from a column wheel, vertical clutch, and MEMS-enhanced escapement for superior accuracy.

Presage celebrates Seiko’s earliest Timekeeper with a white enamel dial, Roman numerals, and vintage-inspired box-shaped glass. Its onion crown and intricately detailed bezel evoke historic silhouettes, while the automatic Caliber 6R51 ensures a three-day power reserve.

The Astron GPS Solar Dual-Time Chronograph exemplifies Seiko’s spirit of innovation, recalling the 1969 Quartz Astron and the 2012 GPS Solar watch. Gold accents appear throughout—from the dial and bracelet to the bezel, which features a gold-colored sapphire crystal insert. Powered by Caliber 5X83, the watch connects automatically or manually to the GPS network, offering global precision with a nod to Seiko’s 145-year legacy.

With these new models, Seiko honors its rich history while continuing to provide timepieces that combine elegance, innovation, and a deep appreciation for craftsmanship.
