In a historic first collaboration, National Geographic and the legendary Sir David Attenborough have joined forces to unveil Ocean With David Attenborough. The feature-length documentary premieres globally on Disney+ Hotstar this June 8, coinciding with World Oceans Day.
The documentary marks Attenborough’s most urgent call to action yet, as he explores the beauty, complexity, and fragility of the world’s oceans, while urging global audiences to embrace solutions that could restore marine ecosystems and combat climate change.
Produced by Silverback Films and Open Planet Studios, the film uses stunning underwater cinematography and decades of Attenborough’s wisdom to deliver a powerful cinematic experience.
Saving The Planet

At 98 years old, the veteran broadcaster draws on over seven decades of natural world storytelling to illuminate how ocean life—spanning coral reefs, kelp forests, and deep-sea seamounts—is vital to a stable climate and thriving planet. The documentary also takes a hard look at the human-driven threats imperilling marine health, including industrial fishing practices like dredging and bottom trawling.
“My lifetime has coincided with the great age of ocean discovery,” Attenborough says. “In this film, we share those wonderful discoveries, uncover why our ocean is in such poor health, and, perhaps most importantly, show how it can bounce back to life.”

Timed with the United Nations Ocean Conference 2025 in Nice and aligned with the UN Decade of Ocean Science, the film is supported by leading scientists including Dr. Enric Sala of National Geographic Pristine Seas. It champions marine protection initiatives that have already proven successful and scalable.
In addition to its digital release, Ocean With David Attenborough will be made available for educational purposes through schools, universities, and museums later this year. The film aims to inspire not just viewers, but the next generation of ocean stewards.
