The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) is set to once more enthral music lovers this October. This time around the orchestra will present a special concert collaborating with renowned pianist Angela Hewitt, which will take place this October at the Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP), KLCC.
Piano Lady
Angela occupies a unique position among today’s leading pianists. With a wide-ranging repertoire and frequent appearances in Europe, America and Asia, she is an award-winning recording artist and her performances of Bach have established her as one of Bach’s foremost interpreters.
In 2020, she received the City of Leipzig Bach Medal, a huge honour awarded to a woman. Her recording works for Bach for Hyperion Records has been described as “one of the record glories of our age” by The Sunday Times.
Global Stage
In 2023, her complete catalogue became available on all major streaming platforms. Conducting from the piano, she has led orchestras in Toronto, Vancouver, Zurich, New York, Vienna, Hong Kong and Japan. She has also given recitals in Copenhagen, Boston, Baltimore, Cambridge and Rome, and is also an artist-in-residence at London’s Wigmore Hall.
Her debut with the MPO will enable the audience to step back in time to an age before conductors stood in front of orchestras; in the 18th century, the concertmaster did a double duty as performer and conductor and Angela will assume this role in this special concert, performing and conducting two of Bach’s and Mozart’s most popular keyboard concertos.
Classic Playlist
The complete programme is as follows: Bach’s Keyboard Concerto No.3 in D and Keyboard Concerto No.5 in F minor, and Mozart’s Piano Concerto No.23 in A and Piano Concerto No.20 in D minor. For classical music lovers, this serves as a rare musical treat where a pianist conducts an orchestra at the DFP.
Catch the collaborative concert between Angela Hewitt and the MPO on Saturday, 5 October 2024 at 8.30pm exclusively at the DFP.
