Michelin Launches Primacy 5: A Tyre for the Future of Driving
Share
Michelin, a global leader in tyre manufacturing, has unveiled the Primacy 5, a premium tyre designed for passenger cars and crossovers, including hybrids and electric vehicles (EVs). With the tagline “Confidence Made to Last,” this new tyre aims to enhance driving performance while addressing the growing need for sustainability and environmental responsibility.
As an upgrade to the highly successful Michelin Primacy 4, the Primacy 5 is engineered to meet the evolving demands of modern vehicles, especially those with higher horsepower and increased weight, such as electric and hybrid models. Prichapakorn Dangrojana, Managing Director of Michelin Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei, emphasised that the tire’s construction is optimised for these advanced vehicles. Key features include better wear life, improved rolling resistance, and superior wet grip, ensuring both safety and lower running costs throughout the tire’s extended lifespan.
Premium Comfort

The Michelin Primacy 5 provides an exceptional driving experience with its innovative tread pattern design, which features Michelin’s Silent Rib Gen-3 technology. This advancement significantly reduces road vibrations and noise, resulting in a smoother and quieter ride. Drivers can enjoy a more comfortable and less fatiguing journey, especially during long drives or daily commutes.
Outstanding Longevity
Built for durability, the Primacy 5 offers impressive longevity, delivering up to 24% more mileage compared to other premium brands. This is achieved through a 10% increase in void ratio compared to its predecessor, as well as the inclusion of MaxTouch technology. MaxTouch optimizes the distribution of forces during acceleration, braking, and cornering, ensuring an even wear and extending the tire’s lifespan without compromising safety.
Superior Safety on Wet Roads
Safety is paramount with Michelin’s latest tyre, particularly in wet conditions. Featuring Functional Elastomers 3.0 and Michelin’s EverGrip technology, the tire excels in wet grip performance. The result is a tire that offers shorter braking distances—8% shorter when new and 13% shorter when worn—ensuring that drivers experience enhanced security even in challenging weather conditions, such as rain or wet roads.
EV Compatibility
The Michelin Primacy 5 is designed with electric vehicles in mind. With a high-performance tread compound, it reduces rolling resistance by 13%, which helps improve energy consumption. This reduction in rolling resistance can extend the battery range of electric vehicles, making it a great option for eco-conscious drivers seeking greater efficiency from their tires.
Sustainability at the Core
In alignment with Michelin’s “All Sustainable” strategy, the Primacy 5 is more environmentally friendly. The tire’s rolling resistance has been improved by 5%, and its longevity has increased by 18%, reducing the overall waste generated. Additionally, the tire’s environmental footprint has been decreased by 6%, making it a more sustainable option for drivers who prioritize eco-conscious products.
The tyre is available in 25 sizes, ranging from 16 to 19 inches, and is now available at Michelin authorized dealers across Malaysia. Prices start from RM477 to RM1,026.
