Netflix is making the nation proud with a slate of local productions
With local movies like Mat Kilau and Mechamato making waves across the globe, it looks like Malaysia is finally getting some recognition on the world stage for our “Buatan Malaysia” films but it does not end there. Far from it in fact, as Netflix is recognizing our talent and releasing some spectacular local films in 2023.
Netflix is banking on #SapotLokal this new year and subscribers will get the opportunity to watch some locally made productions. While historically Hollywood has dominated the global box office, we feel 2023 is the year Malaysia finally gets her big break thanks to Netflix.
The first Made in Malaysia film Netflix has lined up in 2023 is “Air Force The Movie: Danger Close.” Co-directed by Zulkarnain Azhar and Frank See and starring Aiman Hakim Ridza, Dato’ Adi Putra, Nas-T, and more, this film follows the Royal Malaysian Air Force on a heart racing rescue mission.
Also on the cards in 2023 is the Malaysia production, “Dr.Jason Leong: Ride with Caution”. This Netflix special follows up to the doctor-turned-comedian’s previous stand-up comedy special, “Hashtag Blessed”. If you like stand-up comedy then you definitely won’t want to miss this show full of chuckles.
Love horror movies? Then check out “Possessed”, the newest made in Malaysia horror offering for 2023. This film follows a group of college students and the struggle they face when one of them becomes possessed. Will they survive? Watch it and find out.
The fourth and final Made in Malaysia film to look out for on Netflix this 2023 is “Biko”. This is a real tear-jerker of a family drama telling the story of a young boy raised by his single father who has a chance encounter with his mother. He soon learns that he may lose his father in the process.
All these amazing Made in Malaysia films will be available exclusively on Netflix in the coming weeks.
