Bell & Ross BR-X3

Combining a flying tourbillon and a micro-rotor within a minimalist sapphire case, this timepiece elevates mechanical mastery into a visual spectacle, where time takes a back seat to artistry and precision.

In the world of contemporary watchmaking, some timepieces transcend their functional purpose to become works of art. The Bell & Ross BR-X3 Tourbillon Micro-Rotor is one such creation. Far from the professional watch codes that made the brand famous, the BR-X3 marks Bell & Ross’ ascent into Haute Horlogerie, where mechanics meet artistry.

New Frontier

Since its inception, Bell & Ross has built its reputation on three pillars: legibility, functionality, and precision, inspired by aeronautical cockpit instruments. With the BR-X3, the Maison explores a new frontier, turning the movement itself into the focal point.

“It’s a signature watch that concentrates all of Bell & Ross’ know-how, expertise, and design,” says Bruno Belamich, Creative Director. In this piece, telling the time is secondary to the narrative of the movement, which becomes the true protagonist.

The BR-X3 retains Bell & Ross’ iconic square case but transforms it entirely. Crafted from steel and sapphire, the fully transparent design merges case and movement into a single structural unit.

A steel middle case, sapphire top and back, and four signature screws create a minimalist yet technically challenging construction. Sapphire, a material of exceptional hardness, requires meticulous machining and assembly, allowing an uninterrupted view of the watch’s skeletonised movement.

Sapphire Style

This transparency highlights every detail of the calibre BR-CAL.389. The movement draws inspiration from both Piet Mondrian’s geometric abstraction and Charlotte Perriand’s functional architecture, resulting in a precise grid where each bridge, wheel, and ruby is a visual element. The 26 rubies punctuate the composition, while hours and minutes, displayed at 2 o’clock, remain elegantly simple, letting the mechanics take centre stage.

At the heart of the BR-X3 lies a mechanical ballet of two complications: a flying tourbillon and a micro-rotor. The tourbillon, visible at 5:30, rotates once per minute, compensating for gravity’s effect on the balance spring. The micro-rotor, positioned in-plane, preserves the watch’s slim 9mm case while providing a 52-hour power reserve. This combination showcases technical mastery without sacrificing elegance.

Every detail reflects artisanal excellence, from brushed bridges and polished edges to the deliberate minimalist approach. The BR-X3 is not just a timepiece; it is a celebration of modern Haute Horlogerie, where precision, transparency, and beauty converge. For collectors and enthusiasts, it offers a rare opportunity to experience the artistry of watchmaking in its purest form.
