Elegance In Motion: Piaget Altiplano Zodiac Horse Edition
Share
Energetic and always in motion, the Horse—flagship sign of the Chinese zodiac—embodies freedom and lightness. Inspired by this spirit, the Altiplano Zodiac Horse Edition breaks convention under the creative impetus of enamel artist Anita Porchet. Issued in a limited edition of 18 pieces and set with baguette-cut diamonds, this exceptional timepiece enhances a celestial theme cherished by Piaget since 2012.
Part of a prestigious series dedicated to the Chinese zodiac, the Altiplano Zodiac Horse Edition represents the pinnacle of Métiers d’Art, emblematic of the Piaget Maison. It stands at the crossroads of exceptional savoir-faire, combining gem-setting, hand engraving, and enameling.
Powered by the ultra-thin 830P hand-wound caliber, housed in an elegant white gold Altiplano case, and produced in an extremely limited series of just 18 pieces, this creation is placed under the aegis of Piaget’s signature Extraleganza—a delicate and unique union of excellence and extravagance that has animated the Maison’s creations for more than 150 years.
Curved Enamel

The heart of the Altiplano Zodiac Horse Edition lies in its mesmerizing dial, which instantly captures the eye. Its white gold base is hand-engraved in Piaget’s workshops, where the burin reveals a draped relief that serves as a backdrop for the horse motif. The dial is partitioned using the cloisonné technique to receive enamel, while its upper sections are further refined with Palace décor engraving—a goldsmith’s craft Piaget has upheld since the 1960s.
Undulating lines of brilliant-cut diamonds accentuate the engraved surfaces, while the recessed areas are filled with grand feu enamel in shades of blue, grey, and white, from which luminous reflections emerge.
The 41 mm Altiplano case is surrounded by a setting of baguette-cut white diamonds. Its lugs are traced with a line of brilliant-cut diamonds following their gentle curve, while a final rose-cut diamond adorns the crown.
Living Sculpture
Rising in even higher relief, a three-dimensional horse in full leap emerges from the dial. Crafted in cloisonné enamel, it comes alive through a subtle interplay of shadow and light. Rendered in tones ranging from deep blue to white, the tension of the muscles, the reflections of the coat, and the finely detailed neck appear vivid, precise, and dreamlike.
Each of the 18 dials in the Altiplano Zodiac Horse Edition is the work of Swiss enameller Anita Porchet, one of the most celebrated artisans in her field. A long-standing collaborator of Piaget, she brings her delicate touch, interpretive sensitivity, and unparalleled mastery of enamel—particularly cloisonné enamel, one of her specialties. This technique combines remarkable chromatic depth with exceptional precision, achieved by separating color zones using fine gold threads.
Heartbeat

Beneath this ever-changing dial beats one of Piaget’s most refined and proven movements. Reflecting the Maison’s watchmaking expertise, the 830P caliber is the ideal engine for the Altiplano Zodiac Horse Edition. Developed at Piaget’s manufacture in La Côte-aux-Fées, where ultra-thin watchmaking has been a specialty since the 1950s, this hand-wound movement measures just 2.5 mm in thickness. Despite its slender profile, it offers an impressive 60-hour power reserve.
