Murakami Dom Perignon

As one of the world’s most respected artists, Takashi Murakami needs little introduction. Stretching his creative vision beyond art, his signature motifs have been featured across vast collaborations ranging from smartphone cases to luxury handbags.

This November, luxury champagne house Dom Pérignon has tapped the renowned Japanese contemporary artist for a new creative collaboration. The partnership sees Murakami reinterpret the brand’s iconic aesthetic through two limited-edition designs — one for Dom Pérignon Vintage 2015 and another for the launch of Dom Pérignon Rosé Vintage 2010.

Creative Convergence

The collaboration reflects Dom Pérignon’s long-standing dialogue with artists and visionaries, exploring the relationship between tradition and creative evolution. According to Vincent Chaperon, Dom Pérignon’s Chef de Cave, and Murakami, both view their crafts as an ongoing encounter between heritage and innovation rather than a strict adherence to the past.

Murakami described the project as an attempt to transcend time.

“Through my collaboration with Dom Pérignon, I wanted to express a form of time travel,” he said. “My goal is to remain relevant in 100 or 200 years and to transcend time… I hope that people in the future, when they see it, will reimagine 2025 in their own minds.”

Murakami’s Signature Aesthetic

The artist’s instantly recognisable smiling flowers take centre stage in the designs, infusing Dom Pérignon’s minimalist style with his bold and playful visual language. The dark bottles and coffrets have been reimagined with colourful “kawaii” motifs inspired by Murakami’s Superflat movement, creating a striking contrast between elegance and exuberance.

The bottles feature a whimsical, flower-filled landscape in place of Dom Pérignon’s traditional vineyard imagery, symbolising the flourishing creative dialogue between the artist and the Maison. Meanwhile, the coffrets form a modular floral tableau that collectors can assemble and display.

Creative Heritage

Both Dom Pérignon and Murakami draw deeply from their cultural traditions while continually pushing creative boundaries. For Murakami, the vibrant surfaces of his work conceal a philosophical depth, rooted in the Japanese tradition of ukiyo-e, where simplicity and flatness reveal emotional complexity.

Similarly, Dom Pérignon’s approach to winemaking focuses on reinterpreting tradition with each vintage, striving for new harmonies rather than repetition. The collaboration reflects their shared belief that creation is a process of transformation — one that invites reflection and sensory exploration rather than instant gratification.

Nature As A Creative Force

At the heart of both Murakami’s art and Dom Pérignon’s craftsmanship lies a reverence for nature as a living, transformative force. For the Maison, it is the foundation of every vintage, from the terroir to the balance of the grapes. For Murakami, it manifests through his hyper-stylised floral characters — surreal embodiments of vitality and change.

The 2025 limited-edition collection brings these philosophies together, celebrating creativity, movement and transformation in all their forms.

Both editions are available in Malaysia in limited quantities at select premium retailers.
