Canon Marketing Malaysia has introduced the EOS R8 Mark II, a 24.2-megapixel full-frame mirrorless camera designed to bring advanced imaging and creative controls into a compact and lightweight body.

The successor to the EOS R8 measures approximately 131.4 x 90.0 x 79.7mm and weighs about 546g, making it Canon’s smallest and lightest full-frame mirrorless camera with in-body image stabilisation. Its redesigned body combines a contemporary interpretation of Canon’s traditional pentaprism form with an ergonomic grip, while a multi-controller joystick brings more direct autofocus control to a camera in this class.

Full-Frame Performance And Fast Autofocus

The EOS R8 Mark II uses a full-frame CMOS sensor with a light-gathering surface approximately 2.5 times larger than an APS-C sensor. This allows for improved low-light performance and image quality, while the larger sensor format provides a wider field of view at the same focal length.

Its five-axis In-Body IS works with compatible RF lenses through Canon’s Coordinated Control IS system, providing up to 7.5 stops of stabilisation at the centre and seven stops at the edges. For fast-moving subjects, Dual Pixel CMOS AF II autofocus is paired with Pre-Continuous Shooting and electronic-shutter burst speeds of up to 40 frames per second.

A Register People Priority mode can also be used to prioritise a pre-registered person when tracking subjects in busy environments.

Creative Photo And Video Tools

The EOS R8 Mark II expands Canon’s in-camera creative options with two new colour filters, NegativeFilmtone and PositiveFilmtone, alongside 14 existing filters. Handheld Night Scene mode adds four new colour settings, while Creative AUTO provides an interface designed to help users experiment with different visual effects without relying on post-processing.

For video, the camera supports 6K-oversampled 4K 60p recording and Full HD 180p, alongside Canon Log 3 and Custom LUT support. Background Blur can also be applied in movie mode, while Slow & Fast Motion and Cinema View provide additional shooting options.

The EOS R8 Mark II further supports wired and wireless livestreaming, VR lenses and Canon’s new VR Clear Mode. Canon has also introduced the Dual Pixel 3D Converter software, which can convert still photographs into 3D models using distance information captured by the camera’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF system.

Three accessories accompany the launch: the Extension Grip EG-E2, Tripod Grip HG-1000TBR with Bluetooth Remote Controller BR-E2, and Speedlite EL-5.
