The story of Carrie White returns to the screen in a new eight-episode series from The Haunting of Hill House creator Mike Flanagan, with Prime Video releasing the official trailer ahead of its worldwide premiere on 7 October 2026.

Based on Stephen King’s 1974 debut novel, Carrie revisits the isolated high-school student whose sheltered life changes as she enters the unforgiving world of public school while beginning to discover her telekinetic abilities.

The new series stars Summer H. Howell as Carrie, following an extensive casting search involving almost 1,500 actors. Samantha Sloyan plays her fiercely protective mother, Margaret White, with Siena Agudong as Sue Snell, Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen, Joel Oulette as Tommy Ross and Amber Midthunder as Miss Desjardin.

The ensemble also includes Josie Totah, Arthur Conti, Thalia Dudek and Matthew Lillard, while recurring guest stars include Michael Trucco, Crystal Balint, Kate Siegel, Rahul Kohli, Tim Bagley and Heather Graham.

Rather than offering a straightforward retelling, the series expands the world of King’s novel and places its characters within a contemporary environment shaped by social media, public scrutiny and online bullying. Carrie’s transition into high school follows the sudden death of her father, while the emergence of her powers adds another dimension to the pressures surrounding her.

The story builds towards the prom-night events that have defined Carrie for generations, while the television adaptation uses eight episodes to explore the characters and circumstances leading to that pivotal night.

Flanagan serves as showrunner, writer and executive producer, with Stephen King also executive producing. Flanagan directs four episodes, while Kate Siegel, Axelle Carolyn, Kyra Sedgwick and Hiromi Kamata direct the remaining instalments.

The original Carrie novel was published in 1974, while Brian De Palma’s 1976 film adaptation received two Academy Award nominations. The new series marks the first television adaptation of King’s novel.

All eight episodes of Carrie will premiere 7 October 2026, exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
