The Tip Of The Spear

Renowned conductor Eiji Oue returns to the DFP podium after his last collaboration with the MPO in 2018. His past engagements were with the New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, and the Munich and Tokyo Philharmonics, to name a few.

Moreover, he has collaborated with renowned artists of the classical music scene such as Sarah Chang, Conrad Tao, Roger Muraro and Trio Jean Peul. He has recorded classical music albums with the Minnesota Orchestra and the NDR Hannover. He is also very passionate about music education for the next generation of musicians.Scheherazade

Magical Music

Together with the MPO, Oue will weave magic to present Scheherazade written by Russian composer Rimsky-Korsakov showcasing dazzling orchestral colours and sonorities. It was based on the marvelous tales of ‘Arabian Nights,’ an intriguing adventure set in the exotic lands of Persia.

The story about a charming and witty girl by the name Scheherazade also provided a convenient framework to drape a rich and colourful tapestry of the dramatic narratives. The music was first performed in St. Petersburg in 1888 with the composer conducting.Scheherazade

A Little Extra

Also included in this concert programme is Wagner’s storm-tossed Overture to The Flying Dutchman and Debussy’s La Mer. The latter, premiered in 1905 in Paris, is a work that richly and evocatively portrays the sea in its varied moods through sonorities that stir the memories.

Be dazzled by the MPO’s virtuosity in these three fascinating seascapes, only at DFP. The MPO will continue to strive to provide the best performances and diverse programming accessible to everyone.Scheherazade
