A Minecraft Movie, streams exclusively on Max from 20 June. Based on the best-selling video game of all time, Minecraft, this live-action adventure brings blocky brilliance to the big screen for the first time. Directed by Oscar nominee Jared Hess (Nacho Libre, Ninety-Five Senses), the film stars Jason Momoa and Jack Black, alongside Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Hansen, and Jennifer Coolidge.
The story follows four misfits – Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison (Momoa), Henry (Hansen), Natalie (Myers), and Dawn (Brooks) – who are struggling with everyday problems when they’re unexpectedly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld, a surreal, cube-shaped land powered by creativity and imagination.
To find their way home, they must learn to survive in this new world and defend it from the likes of Piglins and Zombies. With the help of the legendary Minecraft character Steve (Black), the group embarks on an epic quest that challenges them to be bold, inventive, and to rediscover the strengths that make them unique.
A Minecraft Movie is a family-friendly, action-packed journey that celebrates creativity, teamwork, and the spirit of adventure – both in-game and in real life. The screenplay was written by Chris Bowman & Hubbel Palmer, Neil Widener & Gavin James, and Chris Galletta, from a story by Allison Schroeder and Bowman & Palmer. Check it out on Max.
