Local watercolour artist Lee Wee Xian is presenting his second solo exhibition, Where We Belong, at AweGallery in Petaling Jaya from 8 to 22 July, bringing together a collection of works inspired by memory, heritage and the places that continue to shape his identity.
The exhibition features 30 watercolour paintings depicting scenes that are familiar to many Malaysians, from century-old shophouses and weathered signboards to heritage streets and parked kapcai motorcycles. Together, these everyday moments form a visual reflection on the meaning of home and belonging.

A college dean by profession, Lee first took up painting as a creative outlet to balance the demands of work. Over the past eight years, he has become an active participant in the international watercolour community, exhibiting works in countries including the United States, China and Australia.
Born and raised in Melaka and now based in Selangor, Lee continues to draw inspiration from the historic city where he grew up. Where We Belong builds on themes introduced in his debut solo exhibition, Overture, expanding his exploration of place, memory and personal connection.

The exhibition also marks a collaboration with his older brother, Lee Wee Khuan, a surgeon and film photography enthusiast. The pair returned to their hometown on a photography trip last year, capturing locations that held personal significance. Lee later transformed the photographs into a series of watercolour paintings, while selected photographs from the journey are also displayed as part of the exhibition.
Where We Belong runs until 22 July at AweGallery, Jalan 20/13, Taman Paramount, Petaling Jaya. The gallery is open daily from 11am to 8pm, with the exhibition open to the public.
