Anantara Desaru Coast achieved this with funds raised for Project Rewild Desaru

Anantara Desaru Coast Resort & Villas, in collaboration with JungleWalla Adventures and Wildlife Tours, is celebrating the success of its Dollar for Deeds initiative, a part of Anantara’s global CSR program that raises funds for meaningful causes.

A Continued Effort

Launched at Anantara Desaru Coast in 2023, the initiative allowed guests to add RM5 per night to their bill, with the resort matching each donation. From January to October 2024, guests generously contributed RM74,847 (USD17,029), and with the resort’s matching donation, the total raised amounted to RM149,694 (USD34,059).

The results were announced during a press conference on 27 November, attended by local media, wildlife conservationists, and special guests, including renowned wildlife photographer Sanjitpal Singh and Dr. Kevin Lazarus, former director of Taiping Zoo. They highlighted the importance of protecting local bird species and the broader environmental efforts underway in the region.

A Good Cause

The funds from Dollar for Deeds have been directed toward supporting Project Rewild Desaru, an ambitious environmental restoration project aimed at revitalizing both terrestrial and marine ecosystems in Desaru Coast. This initiative addresses the damage caused by urbanization, deforestation and other human activities.

The programs under the project include bird censuses to track local species, tree planting to restore damaged landscapes, camera traps to monitor local ecosystems, and seed collecting to preserve native plants.

Saving Wildlife, One Stay At A Time

Torsten Richter, Area General Manager, expressed gratitude for the support of guests and partners, noting that the funds enabled the installation of hornbill nesting boxes to support conservation efforts in areas where tree destruction has impacted nesting sites. The remaining funds were allocated to tree planting, camera trapping, and building wildlife-friendly green bridges.

Located along 17 kilometers of pristine beachfront and near the protected mangroves of Sungai Lebam, Anantara Desaru Coast offers guests a tranquil retreat while allowing them to contribute to the preservation of the natural beauty surrounding the resort through the Dollar for Deeds initiative.
