Prime Video is set to premiere Project Hail Mary this July, bringing Andy Weir’s bestselling science fiction novel to the screen with Ryan Gosling in the lead role.

Directed by Academy Award-winning filmmakers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the film follows Ryland Grace, a science teacher who awakens aboard a spacecraft billions of kilometres from Earth with no memory of his identity or how he arrived there.

As fragments of his memory begin to return, Grace discovers he has been sent on a critical mission to investigate a mysterious substance threatening the Sun and, ultimately, the survival of humanity. Relying on his scientific expertise and unconventional problem-solving skills, he must find a solution before time runs out.

As the mission unfolds, Grace forms an unexpected friendship that reshapes both his journey and the fate of his mission, adding an emotional dimension to the high-stakes story.

The film stars Ryan Gosling alongside Sandra Hüller, James Ortiz, Lionel Boyce, Ken Leung, Milana Vayntrub and Priya Kansara. The screenplay is written by Drew Goddard, who previously adapted Weir’s novel The Martian for the screen.

Known for blending science with character-driven storytelling, Weir’s Project Hail Mary became an international bestseller following its release, earning praise for its mix of scientific problem-solving, suspense and humour.

Project Hail Mary begins streaming on Prime Video from 3 July.
