Mandarin Oriental Desaru Coast

When news broke that One&Only was officially exiting Desaru Coast in May, many wondered who would take over the resort. Well, a month later, the answer has been revealed – Mandarin Oriental will be making a grand entrance to Desaru Coast.

The Hotel Group is set to expand its footprint in Malaysia with the rebranding of the luxury beachfront resort. The property will officially join the Mandarin Oriental portfolio this month and will be fully rebranded as Mandarin Oriental, Desaru Coast in January 2026.

Located on 128 acres of lush rainforest and pristine coastline overlooking the South China Sea, the property offers an ideal blend of natural beauty and refined hospitality. With its close proximity to Mandarin Oriental properties in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, the resort reinforces the Group’s focus on expanding in premier resort destinations across Southeast Asia.

The property features 44 spacious suites and villas, many with private gardens and plunge pools, offering sea or rainforest views. Guests can enjoy five distinct dining venues, a stylish beach club, and a lounge bar. The Spa at Mandarin Oriental will serve as a holistic wellness sanctuary, complemented by a yoga pavilion, fitness centre, beauty salon, and sports facilities including tennis and padel courts. A dedicated Kids’ Club provides indoor and outdoor experiences for younger guests.

Designed by the late Kerry Hill, the resort reflects his signature tropical modernism, harmoniously integrating built spaces with the natural landscape. Elegant event venues with panoramic views make it an ideal setting for weddings and private functions.

Guests will also have access to the nearby Els Club Desaru Coast, which includes two championship golf courses designed by Ernie Els and Vijay Singh. Additionally, in line with the Group’s long-term strategy, the resort will also introduce 40 branded residences, offering private ownership with Mandarin Oriental’s renowned service.
