Johnnie Walker Black Ruby Arrives In Malaysia

Johnnie Walker has introduced Black Ruby in Malaysia, adding a fruit-forward expression to its Scotch whisky portfolio. Drawing on the character of Johnnie Walker Black Label, the new release places greater emphasis on berry and stone-fruit flavours, with a profile designed for both sipping and cocktail-making.
Launched in Malaysia on 28 September 2026, Black Ruby is a permanent addition to the range. Its flavour profile features notes of raspberry jam, blackberry, figs, plums and maraschino cherries, balanced by honeyed sweetness, subtle spice and a light smoky finish.
The whisky brings together selected spirits from distilleries across Scotland. Clynelish contributes a rich, creamy character, while Glenkinchie and Cameronbridge provide vanilla and sweet-fruit notes. Cardhu adds red-apple and berry flavours, with whisky from Caol Ila introducing a gentle smokiness.
Another component comes from Roseisle, one of Johnnie Walker’s newer single malt distilleries. According to the brand, experimentation with longer fermentation and distillation helped develop the amplified fruit character that distinguishes Black Ruby.
Scotch With A Twist

The release is the first innovation inspired by Johnnie Walker Black Label from master blender Dr Emma Walker and her team since she took on the role in 2022. Walker describes the whisky as a combination of rich berry flavours and honeyed sweetness, with figs, plums and maraschino cherries contributing to its profile.
Black Ruby also reflects the growing emphasis on cocktail applications within the Scotch category. Its sweeter character is intended to offer bartenders an alternative base for mixed drinks, while retaining elements associated with traditional Scotch, including spice and smoke.

Jennifer English, Johnnie Walker’s global brand director, said the release draws on Black Label’s established flavour profile while being developed with contemporary mixology in mind.
In Malaysia, the brand plans to work with bartenders and mixologists on signature serves, bar takeovers and cocktail events at participating venues over the coming months. These activities will introduce different ways of using the whisky in cocktails, extending its role beyond conventional Scotch serves.
With Black Ruby, Johnnie Walker adds another expression to its portfolio, using fruit-forward flavours to explore a different interpretation of blended Scotch whisky.
