After a successful debut in 2023, Dondang Dongeng, the enchanting musical that breathes new life into Malaysia’s beloved folklore, is back and better than ever! This award-winning production, directed by a talented creative team, has captivated audiences and won five prestigious awards at the 19th BOH Cameronian Arts Awards (BCAA) in 2024, including the coveted “Best of 2023” honour.

Supported by ArtsFas, Yayasan Hasanah, and the Ministry of Finance, Dondang Dongeng is not just a musical, it’s a cultural celebration of Malaysia’s rich heritage. The production sparks curiosity with a simple yet profound question, Do Malaysians, especially children, still know our local folklore?

The performance explores this idea through vibrant storytelling, weaving together iconic tales like the clever Sang Kancil and the legends of graceful local princesses. The magic of Dondang Dongeng is its ability to bring these timeless stories to life through stunning melodies and catchy songs.

The musical combines nostalgic elements with modern touches, making it a delightful experience for both the young and the young at heart. One of the highlights is the powerful original composition “Pekan” by Mia Palencia, which won Best Original Composition at the BCAA, a beautiful blend of heartfelt lyrics and modern music that resonates with audiences.
