Journey Beneath ArtScience Museum

Visitors can journey into one of Earth’s least-explored environments in Into the Ocean: Journey Beneath, a new immersive exhibition at Singapore’s ArtScience Museum that blends marine science, contemporary art and interactive technology.

Presented in collaboration with ocean exploration organisation OceanX, the exhibition runs until 1 November and recreates a deep-sea expedition through a series of multi-sensory environments inspired by real scientific missions.

Journey Beneath ArtScience Museum

The experience begins aboard OceanX’s research vessel, R/V OceanXplorer, before taking visitors on a virtual descent through the ocean’s different layers, from the sunlit Photic Zone to the dark depths of the Aphotic Zone. Along the way, visitors encounter bioluminescent marine life, interactive installations and scientific discoveries that reveal the vital role the ocean plays in sustaining Earth’s climate and biodiversity.

Ocean Art

The exhibition combines artworks by international artists including Sissel Tolaas, Marshmallow Laser Feast, Jana Winderen, Lachlan Turczan, Marco Barotti, Robertina Šebjanič and Thailand’s bit.studio with research and footage from OceanX and scientific institutions.

Among the highlights is Invisible Ocean by Sissel Tolaas, an olfactory installation that recreates the scents of marine environments using ocean samples and molecular chemistry. Other installations invite visitors to pilot a virtual OceanX submersible, explore ocean currents that influence the global climate and experience the sounds of the deep sea.

The exhibition also features coral reef research from the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum at the National University of Singapore, alongside rare deep-sea specimens and interactive displays that showcase ongoing marine research.

The final section shifts the focus to conservation through Seagrass Stories: Help the Ocean to Heal, developed with WWF Singapore, where visitors can learn about marine restoration efforts and the importance of protecting ocean ecosystems.

For a limited time only, Into the Ocean: Journey Beneath offers an immersive look at one of the planet’s last great frontiers while highlighting the science and conservation efforts shaping its future.
