In the world’s fastest and most global sport, Ayrton Senna is considered by many Formula 1 racing fans to be the fastest driver of all time. His impressive figures help explain why the driver has earned the title of sporting legend: winning three F1 world titles, 41 victories, 65 pole positions and 80 podiums between 1984 and 1994. Now Netflix is bringing to light the amazing life and career of Senna in an all-new sports drama series.
When Is It Coming Out?
Set to premiere in late 2024, the limited series stars Gabriel Leone as the legendary racer. Over the course of six episodes, Senna will showcase Ayrton’s journey through triumph, disappointment, joy, and sorrow, unveiling his personality and personal relationships.
The series starts with the genesis of the three-time Formula 1 champion’s motor racing career, when he moves to England to compete in Formula Ford, up until his tragic accident in Imola, Italy, during the San Marino Grand Prix.
For racing fans, the series will also delve deeper into some iconic characters and friendships that Senna had over the years. This includes Xuxa (Pâmela Tomé), Alain Prost (Matt Mella), and the McLaren team principal, Ron Dennis (Patrick Kennedy) and Galvão Bueno (Gabriel Louchard).
Authentic Life Story
With Vicente Amorim as showrunner and co-director, alongside with Julia Rezende, Senna is produced by Gullane with the support of Senna Brands and the driver’s family. Judging by the teaser trailer for Senna released by Netflix, the series will not be short on action and authenticity.
The teaser showcases a recreation of Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna’s historic victory at the 1991 Brazilian Grand Prix at Interlagos that marked the first time he won in his hometown of São Paulo, following a challenging race where he was mostly stuck in sixth gear. Check it out here.
