Feel the love in the air at the DFP with the MPO this Valentine’s Day

Love is in the air when the MPO celebrates Valentine’s Day by presenting much loved works and Broadway masterpieces. This amorous concert is themed A Valentine’s Serenade and is scheduled for Saturday, 17 February 2024 at 8.30 pm at Dewan Filharmonik Petronas, KLCC.

Feel The Love

The MPO, under the helm of its Resident Conductor Gerard Salonga, is set to spellbind audience with a selection of songs celebrating love with a touch of orchestral magic, such as Love Story (Where Do I Begin), Last Night, (They Long To Be) and many more, sprinkled with some Broadway hits from Wicked, Funny Girl, Les Misérables and Phantom of the Opera.

Vocalists Sean Ghazi, Ida Mariana, Nikki Palikat and Izen Kong will collaborate with the MPO and enthral lovebirds at this special concert. Sean has played the leading roles in London’s West End stage through Miss Saigon, Rent and The King & I. Recipient of the Cameronian Arts Awards, he has also won the coveted Anugerah Industri Muzik award for his debut album Semalam in 2007.

The Talent

Ida Mariana is a singer for TARAKUCHA! and is also known as the “Queen of Kebaya Jazz,” a genre she founded 12 years ago. She is adept at singing in many languages and many will remember her vocal prowess and presence in Puteri Gunung Ledang The Musical. She studied theatre at University of New South Wales.

On top of that, known for her vocal prowess, Nikki Palikat has participated in singing competitions such as Malaysian Idol and Gegar Vaganza. She has released well-received albums such as Maharani (2005) and Hawa (2008), and has won awards at Anugerah Planet Muzik and Anugerah Era. She is also a theatre actress.

The Credentials

Lastly, Izen Kong has performed with many notable production companies in Malaysia. His stage work includes Dama Asia’s The Legends and Larger Than Life, Aladdin – A Musical Comedy Reloaded, and Cabaret. He has performed with the MPO in The Best of Rodgers & Hammerstein concert in 2017, and Opera In The Park by Singapore Lyric Opera and That’s Entertainment by PAN Productions.
